Annual Fund Campaign

Thanks to generous donors like you, Grace4Kenya has been able to raise more than $1.5 million over our first four years as a foundation to cover the grants requested by the partners we work with: a Kenyan hospital, mobile clinics, Community Health Evangelism, schools, and Bible Faith Church. We are reaching out to raise support for our 2025 grants with an Annual Fund Campaign. For those of you who have already sent your donation in for the year, we thank you for your loyalty.  You are saving and improving lives like the story of Dorcus and Bremin below.

Saving the lives of mothers and babies

On one Sunday morning in April everything seemed normal. But for Dorcus, a 38-week pregnant mother of one, this Sunday would turn out to be unforgettable.

As Dorcus felt the first signs of labor, she knew it was time. Having already gone through labor with her first child, Whitney, she recognized the sensations and understood that her second child was on the way.

However, getting the right hospital for the delivery was daunting because the county hospitals are so crowded, Dorcus chose to go to Bible Faith Hospital in Bendera, because it was cleaner, less crowded, and offered more personalized care. It was a place where she felt comfortable.  Her pregnancy had been uncomplicated, and everything had felt normal. She hadn’t had an ultrasound because it was costly and she felt confident that all was well.

When Dorcus arrived at Bible Faith Hospital, things escalated quickly. She was immediately taken to the maternity ward, where the nurse began the initial examination. That’s when the first worrying sign appeared: her water had broken, and the amniotic fluid was stained with meconium—a sign that the baby might be in distress. The nurse then palpated her abdomen and realized that the baby was breech. This was a serious concern, as breech deliveries carry higher risks..

As the medical team assessed the situation, they found that Dorcus’ cervix was already dilated to 6 cm, and the baby’s foot was already out. She had a footling breech. It became clear that a vaginal delivery was no longer an option. The risks for both mother and baby were too high. The situation required an emergency C-section, so a surgeon was urgently called in to perform the procedure. Thankfully the surgical theatre was complete and equipped. As the minutes passed, Dorcus felt the weight of the situation.

She had hoped for a natural birth, but it was clear that surgery was necessary for the safety of both her and her baby. Despite her anxiety, she remained calm and placed her trust in God and the medical team.

Once the doctor arrived, Dorcus was quickly prepped for surgery. The environment of the operating room with the bright lights and the sounds of medical instruments heightened the tension. It felt like an eternity before the sound that everyone had been waiting for: the cry of her baby, signaling that Bremin had safely entered the world.

Praise be to God!! The relief in the room was palpable. Dorcus’ baby boy was born healthy and strong, and the C-section had been successful. Had the surgery not been performed, the risks could have been severe ranging from potential brain damage due to lack of oxygen, to injury during delivery, or even life-threatening complications for Dorcus herself. But the team’s swift response and expertise ensured that both mother and child were alive. Three days later, Dorcus and her baby were discharged from the hospital, both healthy and doing well. As she held her newborn, she felt a deep sense of gratitude for the care she had received from Bible Faith Medical Services.

Infant and maternal death rates in West Pokot County are among the highest in Kenya.  Only 52% of the births in the county occur in health facilities.

Our goal for 2025 is to award $350,000 in grants.
We need your help to reach that goal!

More than numbers, it is the lives and communities that have been changed through the ministries of Grace4Kenya that matter. In Matthew 25:40 Jesus teaches his disciples that, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."  Rachel Kendagor celebrates along with her community "thanks be to God for all the work you do in helping the least of His children here, it is my earnest prayer that God will touch their hearts to do the same."
